#4 Elmira Sugar Kings 6
Listowel Cyclones 4
Ryan Cornfield scored his second goal of the game and league-leading 9th power play goal of the season with 6:31 left in the third period to snap a 4-4 tie and lift the Sugar Kings to their fourth win in as many meetings over the Cyclones this season.
The Sugar Kings — who entered the game with a league-best +26 goal difference in the first period — had built a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes on goals from Cornfield, Brendan Gerber (12), Kyle Morey (19) and Alex Rossi (3).
The Cyclones stormed back with 4 unanswered goals in the second period from Hudson Wiles (6), Jordan Visneski (13), Keaton Middleton (2) and Clark deBoer (4), setting up Cornfield’s third period heroics.
With the win, the Sugar Kings (21-4-1-0) are now just two points back of the first place Chatham Maroons in the Western Conference standings, with Elmira having played three fewer games.
The 10th-place Cyclones remain 3 points back of the 9th-place LaSalle Vipers and 7 points behind the 8th-place Strathroy Rockets in the battle for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
