Logan Hawery, a promising forward with the St. Thomas Stars and a prospect for the London Knights, recently shared his insights on his junior hockey journey and experiences so far in the GOJHL and OHL.
Hawery was a standout on the GOJHL U18 Team at the St. Andrew’s College MacPherson Tournament last month. “It was a great experience playing with such high-talented, skilled players,” he remarked, highlighting the supportive team culture. Hawery had 3 goals and 4 points in 4 games in the invitational tournament.
“I try not to look too far into the future and take each day as it comes … I try to be as consistent as possible and focus on my 200-foot game”
One standout moment for Hawery so far in the GOJHL is his four-goal performance — including the OT winner — in his first GOJHL game, a 5-4 win over Komoka on January 10. He described it as “a crazy day … I had just joined the team that day, I tried to fit in as much as possible and luckily I had a great performance.”
Moving away from home for the first time in his life, Hawery is grateful for how welcoming his billets were in London, particularly noting the support of his roommate, Henry Brzustewicz. “They’ve been awesome since day one, and I don’t get too homesick,” he shared.
Among his favourite memories in London in his rookie junior season was playing in his hometown of Barrie for the London Knights, where he scored two goals. “Having friends and family in the crowd made it a truly special experience.” Looking ahead, Hawery — London’s first round selection (20th overall) in the 2024 OHL Priority Draft — expressed his excitement about joining the Knights, a team for which he aspired to play. “London is the best place to be, and it’s exciting to be part of this team,” he said, reflecting on achieving his goal of being drafted to the OHL, and even better, being drafted by the Knights.
Taking a disciplined approach to his development, Hawery emphasized focusing on one practice at a time and staying present. “I try not to look too far into the future and take each day as it comes,” he explained, underscoring his commitment to consistency.
Reflecting on his time in St. Thomas, Hawery highlighted the welcoming atmosphere created by the team. “The boys there made me feel like I could fit right in,” he noted, appreciating the team’s culture.
When asked about his playing style and goals for development, Hawery emphasized his commitment to being a consistent, hard-working two-way player. “I try to be as consistent as possible and focus on my 200-foot game,” he stated, highlighting his roles on special teams and his efforts to enhance his creativity and comfort on the ice when playing in St Thomas.
As Logan Hawery continues to progress in his hockey career, his dedication to improvement and passion for the game shine through, promising an exciting future both with the London Knights and St Thomas Stars.
