Location:  This is a remote role; however, the successful candidate should be based in Southwestern Ontario.

About the GOJHL:
The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) is a premier junior hockey league in Southern Ontario, dedicated to developing the next generation of hockey talent while emphasizing player-first development, academic success, and community involvement. The league provides meaningful opportunities for athletes to grow through high-level competition and exposure to higher-level hockey.

Position Summary:
The GOJHL Referee in Chief provides leadership and oversight for all officiating operations within the league. Reporting directly to the Commissioner, the Referee in Chief ensures that league directives are implemented, officials are supported and developed, and player safety is maintained. This role serves as the primary point of contact for all officiating matters within the league and acts as the GOJHL representative to the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and other hockey bodies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the direction of the GOJHL officiating department in accordance with league directives.
  • Represent the GOJHL at the OHA on all officiating matters and serve on the OHA Officiating Committee.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all teams regarding officiating inquiries.
  • Maintain communication with coaches and general managers regarding officiating updates, rules, and issues.
  • Collaborate with the OHA to develop a yearly GOJHL Rules Emphasis outline.
  • File monthly reports to the Commissioner detailing department progress and initiatives.
  • Work with the OHA to ensure fair mileage assignments and balanced exposure of officials to teams.
  • Provide support and advice to the Commissioner on player safety and officiating-related matters.
  • Maintain positive relationships with the OHA and other junior hockey leagues.
  • Assist in drafting and maintaining the GOJHL Operations Manual.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Commissioner.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of hockey rules, regulations, and officiating practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with hockey officials and understanding their development needs.
  • Familiarity with OHA processes and junior hockey operations preferred.
  • Commitment to player development, safety, and the growth of hockey in Ontario.
