The Greater Ontario Hockey League is pleased to announce the winners of the Collins Clothiers Players of the Month for January.
Player of the Month:
Sam Tonelli (Fort Erie Meteors)
9 GP: 7 goals, 9 assists, 16 points
The veteran forward from Port Colborne had three 3-point games and ended the month on a 13-game point streak which is tied for the longest active streak in the league. His assist on the game winning goal in a 4-3 win over Cambridge on the 10th was his 200th career GOHL point. The 14th round pick by the London Knights in 2021 is second in league scoring with 67 points, and he leads the Meteors with 45 assists.
Rookie of the Month:
Jake Ritson (Strathroy Rockets)
6 GP: 4 goals, 11 assists, 15 points
The Thunder Bay native had points in all 6 games in January, capped off by a season-high 6-point effort (including a franchise record-tying 5 assists) in 7-5 win over St. Thomas on the 24th. The 5th round pick by the London Knights in 2025 leads all GOHL rookies in points (57), assists (38), and power play points (23). This is Jake’s second Rookie of the Month award this season.
Goaltender of the Month:
JD Low (Port Colborne Sailors)
6 GP: 4-2-0, 1.78 GAA, .943 Sv%, 1 SO
The first-year goalie from Galena, Ohio recorded his third shutout of the season with 24-save effort in the Sailors’ 4-0 win in Caledonia on the 17th. After starting the month with a pair of defeats, the Columbus Blue Jackets AAA alumnus ended the month winning each of his last four starts. Among all GOHL rookie goalies, his three shutouts are tied for the most and his 16 wins rank second .
