The Siskins are hosting a “School Day” game and are anticipating a crowd of 3,000 students for the 11:00am puck-drop.
This is the second meeting this season between these two Western Conference foes, with the Sugar Kings edging the Siskins 2-1 on Sep.27 with Kyle Morey scoring the OT winner (video).
In fact, these two teams have a habit of needing extra time when they face each other, as 7 of the last 24 meetings have been decided in overtime or shootout with the Sugar Kings victorious in all 7 (5 OT, 2 SO).
Elmira’s last game was a 5-4 OT win at home over the Kilty B’s, extending their home point streak to 10 games (9-0-1-0). In the first of three straight on the road, the 2nd place Sugar Kings head to Waterloo to face the Siskins where a win would move them 4 points behind the first place Chatham Maroons.
Elmira’s Brady Schwindt (Kitchener Rangers, 2021) has goals in each of his last 5 road games.
Waterloo surrendered a season-high 6 goals in Wednesday’s 6-3 loss in London — just their second road regulation loss of the season — despite outshooting the Nationals 49-30.
The Siskins are among several teams vying for position in the crowded Western Conference standings. They currently sit 7th, 4 points ahead of 8th place LaSalle. A win over Elmira would move the Siskins one point behind 6th place St. Thomas and two points back of 5th place St. Marys.
