Saturday, November 8:
#6 London Nationals 3
#7 St. Thomas Stars 7
With Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Joe Thornton in attendance, Cole Edmundson scored twice and added an assist to lead the Stars (12-5-0-1) to their 5th straight win in front of a crowd of 1479 at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.
In a pre-game ceremony celebrating his upcoming Hall of Fame induction on Monday, an emotional Joe Thornton expressed his gratitude (video below) to the fans of St. Thomas where he scored 104 points as a rookie for the Stars in 1994-95, helping the team to a league title.
With their first win over the Nationals in over two years, the Stars jumped into a tie for 4th place in the Western conference standings, one point ahead of the Nationals (12-7-0-0).
The 4-goal margin of victory was the largest for the Stars in a win over London since a 4-0 win on Feb.8, 2019. And it has been exactly 15 years and one day since the Stars last scored 7 goals against the Nationals in a 7-4 win on November 7, 2010, a span of 76 meetings.
Nathan Slaght and Joey Buzzetta scored their first career GOHL goal for the Stars, who also got goals from Chase Pettipiece (Flint Firebirds, 2025), George Matsos (Windsor Spitfires, 2024), and Reid Crossman (Brantford Bulldogs, 2025). Stars captain Owen Gray added 3 assists.
Stars netminder Eric McDonald (W, 8-3) stopped 35 of 38 shots faced.
